Ladysmith KZN: Parolee appears in court for rape

The 30-year-old parolee was arrested in Matiwaneskop after an 8-year-old girl was raped while walking home from school

Ladysmith KZN – A 30-year-old suspect who is a parolee appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Friday (September 4), facing rape charges.

It was revealed in court that the 30-year-old has two other records of cases (prior convictions).

The case was postponed until Friday this week (September 11), with the alleged rapist remaining in police custody until he appears in court.

The suspect was arrested last week Tuesday (September 2) in Matiwaneskop after an eight-year-old girl was sexually assaulted while walking home alone from school. The girl was dragged into a donga and raped.

Police received a tip-off about a man seen leaving the donga minutes after the incident happened. When police went to the man’s home in Matiwaneskop, he attempted to run away but was later arrested on a nearby mountain in Matiwaneskop.
