The Provincial Task Team announced its presence with a bang from November 5 to 8, netting a total of 19 suspects during its operation.
Lizzy Arumugam of Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications confirmed that the suspects arrested were wanted for several offenses, including robberies, assault GBH, possession of ammunitions and rape.
“The task team enhances the District Task Team, who have already been implemented,” explained Arumugam. “A further four suspects were arrested for being in possession of Mandrax and Whoonga and selling alcohol illegally.”

All suspects, she added, are between the ages of 18 and 25 and are expected to make their appearances at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court soon.
“These operations are included in the ‘Festive Season Operation’ which has already begun around the country. The District Commissioner, Major General James Sayer has welcomed the intervention team’s successes and has promised to leave no stone unturned in ensuring the safety of the community in the Amajuba District,” concluded Arumugam.
