GLENCOE KZN: Sarel Cilliers prefects tackle the majestic Berg

Bonds were formed and friendships made.

A group of excited hostel and school prefects from Sarel Cilliers High School boarded the bus for the ‘Prefect Camp’ in Drakensville on February 18. The jubilant mood, with much laughter and singing on the bus, continued throughout the whole weekend; even when the teams were faced with difficult and thought-provoking challenges that required ingenuity and teamwork.

After explaining the rules of the camp, instructors Sam and Mo were on hand to guide the students through difficulties such as building a tower with only crates and ropes, without touching the crates. Other activities over the weekend included hiking 4.5km through the majestic beauty of the Drakensberg; abseiling down mountain cliffs; traversing obstacle courses, with a break to go swimming later in the day; and then hiking back to camp.

Principal Mr Soobramoney and vice-principal Mrs Maree joined the camp on the Friday afternoon to check on the children, but could not be persuaded to attempt the obstacle course. The activities on the Saturday included raft building and zip lining, more swimming and going down slides. It was an action-packed adventure that the prefects will never forget.

Bonds were formed and friendships made. The 2021 leaders of Sarel Cilliers returned on Sunday, absolutely exhausted but ready to face the trials and tribulations of 2021 together as a forceful team who will stand together no matter what happens.
