NEWCASTLE KZN: Police put six suspects behind bars for drug-related offenses
The intelligence driven operation was conducted in the Osizweni policing area.
A successful intelligence driven operation in the Osizweni Policing Area has resulted in the arrest of six suspects for various drug-related offenses.
According to Lizzy Arumugam of the Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications office, the operation took place from March 16 to 22 and focused on drugs and other cases in Osizweni.
“The operation consisted of members from Osizweni Crime Prevention and the Newcastle Cluster Task Team,” confirmed Arumugam.
Here’s what went down:
Tuesday (March 16) – During the night, law enforcement members arrived at a home in the Naas farm area and arrested one suspect for dealing in dagga and being in possession of dry, loose dagga. Arumugam said police confiscated 22 small parcels of dagga and a white plastic bag of dry, loose dagga from the scene.

Thursday (March 18) – During the early hours of the morning, police arrived at a home in Section A and arrested one suspect for being in possession of cocaine. Three small parcels of the drug, in clear plastic bags, was recovered.

Friday (March 19) – In the early hours of the morning, police descended on a home in the Blaauwbosch area at Msomi Stand. “When members arrived, they arrested one suspect for being in possession of Mandrax tablets,” revealed Arumugam.
Police confiscated one full Mandrax tablet, one half tablet and three quarter tablets of the drug. That same morning and also in Blaauwbosch, members arrived at Moloi stand and arrested another suspect for being in possession of Mandrax:
“Police recovered four Mandrax tablets, two half tablets and one quarter tablet from that raid,” said Arumugam.
Another suspect was arrested at midday, also at the Msomi Stand area, for being in possession of heroin.

“Members recovered 18 small parcels of heroin from the scene.”
Monday (March 22) – During the night, members converged on a home in Section C where one suspect was taken into custody after police recovered 10 small parcels of heroin from the house.

“All the suspects were between the ages of 23 and 36. The estimated combined street value of the drugs recovered was approximately R50 000. All six suspects have since appeared in the Madadeni Magistrate Court,” concluded Arumugam.
