DUNDEE KZN: Dundee residents fear a dry weekend as water outage continues

Water tankers will be sent out to residential areas, Umzinyathi confirmed

A massive rupture in the main water pipe feeding Dundee has left the town without water since yesterday afternoon.

The burst occurred on the corner of Tatham and Colley Streets which is now closed to traffic after workmen excavated deep under the road to access the broken pipe.

Umzinyathi District Municipality, whose competency is the maintenance of water reticulation in the Municipal area, confirmed that a contractor ”digging trenches to install fibre damaged the main water pipe line in Tatham Street in Dundee. The whole of Dundee is without water. We are attending to the burst, it could take a few hours to fix as the damage is extensive.” The water outage is continuing this morning while workers seek to replace the broken section of pipe.

“The repair is work has been slowed down due to a problem with the fittings as the pipe is an odd size and have to access a new one from further afield but we are working on it. In the meantime water tankers will be dispatched to assist,” a Umzinyathi spokesperson told the Courier this morning.
