DUNDEE KZN: Charges opened after illegal hunting incident

"One cannot hunt on a farm without the necessary hunting license and written permission from the landowner."

An illegal hunting incident on a farm in the Wasbank area this morning resulted in the shooting of several dogs.

Herman de Wet of the Dundee and District Farmers Union reported that a group of men, thought to number about seven with around 40 dogs, arrived on the farm at around 6am.

The dogs were seen chasing kudu. Farmers in area and security officers responded and several dogs were shot.  It is understood that one person was assaulted in the melee.

“One cannot hunt on a farm without the necessary hunting license and written permission from the landowner.

The landowner must also have permission from Ezemvelo to carry out hunting on the property and it must be stated what will be hunted. One cannot also capture game without the necessary permit either,” Mr De Wet said.

Charges of illegal hunting, trespassing, intimidation and assault have apparently being laid at the Wasbank SAPS.
