Ladysmith KZN: Mayor on course as uThukela supplies water to communities
The project was carried out in-house and was done to tackle water challenges in the area

uThukela District Municipality held a community engagement meeting at Mcitsheni Community Hall yesterday (June 2), where District Mayor Siphiwe Mazibuko officially handed over a 4km Water Reticulation Project.
The mayor was accompanied by Ward Cllr Madinane and municipal officials. The project was carried out in-house by uThukela District and was undertaken to tackle water challenges in the area.
Mayor Mazibuko admitted that the district has challenges with regards to issues of water and he was grateful for the team from uThukela, as the community will now be receiving water.
The mayor also made a commitment that all broken boreholes that were reported will be fixed soon to enable the community to have access to water.

By midday, the team was joined by Ward Cllr Ndamane and handed over two hand pumps to the communities of St Chad’s in Mancanakazana and Ema-2000.
“As uThukela District, our job is to deliver water and sanitation services, and where there are springs, we protect them for safe consumption. We also supply water through pipelines, but while we are waiting to provide the community with piped water, we will use hand pumps as a temporary measure,” the mayor explained.
He went on to say that they will sustain this level of service delivery to ensure that infrastructure is built for communities that don’t have water.
Community members expressed gratitude that Council is developing their area, as they have suffered a lot, especially with water shortages.
