Ladysmith KZN: High-speed chase leads to swift arrest

The driver abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee on foot, but he was caught and arrested

A tip-off about a stolen vehicle led to an arrest being made on Saturday afternoon (June 12).

Ekuvukeni Visible Policing officers were monitoring the area of Hlathi No. 3, where a group of about 2000 people were digging in the field and looking for diamonds. While monitoring, information was received concerning a motor vehicle that had allegedly been stolen.

Police officers proceeded to the Limehill turn-off, where the driver of the suspected stolen vehicle tried to make a U-turn.

A chase ensued and the driver of the bakkie abandoned the vehicle and tried to flee on foot, but he was caught and arrested. There were two suspects in the vehicle, but the other managed to run away and elude capture.

The suspect made an appearance in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on Monday, where he faced possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition charges, as well as possession of suspected stolen motor vehicle charges.
