NEWCASTLE KZN: Another quiet night but community remains on high alert

Patrols continue in all areas and residents are called on to be vigilant for any signs of suspicious activity.

Many stores in town have opened as usual this morning, as life begins to resume normalcy after days of unrest and uncertainty.

Major routes in and out of the town are reportedly clear, according to local crime forums. This includes the N11 between Newcastle and Volksrust, and routes linking the town with Dannhauser, Ladysmith and connecting areas. Roads to Vryheid are also said to be unaffected.

While no major incidents were reported overnight, community watch groups and local law enforcement are not letting their guard down. Patrols continue in all areas and residents are called on to be vigilant for any signs of suspicious activity.

In addition, stock in many stores and supermarkets is limited amid a spree of ‘panic buying’. Residents are also urged to be patient, considerate, and anticipate possible queues.
