1 dead, 10 injured in R69 head-on collision

One person died and 10 others were injured in a head-on collision on the R69.

One person died, and 10 others were injured in a head-on collision involving two Volkswagen Polos on the R69 between Vryheid and Hlobane last night (Friday).

The crash was reported to Road Angels for dispatch at 21:46.

Emergency services found two vehicles involved in the collision, with one person trapped in each vehicle.

The person trapped in one of the vehicles was safely extricated, while the person trapped in the other vehicle was declared dead at the scene.

Two critical, five seriously injured

A total of 11 people were involved in the crash.

Two people sustained critical injuries requiring immediate medical attention, while five suffered serious injuries and four sustained minor injuries.

All surviving patients were treated at the scene before being transported to Vryheid Hospital for further medical care.

R69 closed after crash

The R69 was closed while emergency personnel attended to the scene.

The circumstances surrounding the collision were not immediately available.
