ESTCOURT KZN: Uniting for a prayer for peace

Amid songs of praise, the guest speakers delivered messages of hope for rebuilding the country

During times of strife, prayer is often sought as a soothing balm.

This was certainly the case when a ‘Special Prayer’ was held at the Wembezi Multi-Purpose Centre on July 22.

Hosted by Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality, in partnership with the religious fraternity, the prayer was to call on divine intervention during a time of unrest and looting, as well as the deadly coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.

Present at the event were members of different political parties and War Room representatives.

Amid songs of praise, the guest speakers delivered messages of hope for rebuilding the country, as well as denouncing the looting that took place in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng recently.

Local Mayor Jabulile Mbele was one of the guest speakers.

She was quoted as saying: “People have the right to protest, but acts of criminality and destruction to property must be highly discouraged.”

She expressed concern about the example the current generation is setting for the youth.

“Seeing children following their parents on a looting spree was disturbing to see,” she said.
