Mpilenhle Zikalala, a Grade 11 learner at Sarel Cilliers High School, has quietly been making waves with her oratory prowess, progressing up the public speaking competition ladder with controversial subjects such as gender-based violence and teen suicide.

She achieved A+ results in Round 1 and Round 2 of the South African Literary Association English Home Language Public Speaking Competition.

Last week, she received the exciting news that she is one of the competition finalists. With entries from schools all over South Africa, this is a laudable achievement.
Due to Covid-19 regulations, the entries have been submitted ‘virtually’ and the finals will follow the same protocol.

Well done, Mpilenhle!

We wish you the best of luck for the finals. Your passion and commitment is clearly evident in your delivery, and it is obvious that you feel strongly about your subject matter.

The matric students complete their trial exams this week, while the lower grades start with the term 3 control tests.

These tests will determine the final marks for term 3, so we encourage the learners to work hard and do their best.
With only a few teaching days of term left, it is important that the students focus and work diligently.
