VRYHEID KZN: Ajay reels in a ‘monster’ from the Bass Whisperer’s deck

Husband and wife were both so excited, and now hope to land even bigger fish in the future

Ajay Mohunram and his wife went out to a local dam on a very cold and overcast day a few weeks ago, hoping to catch some decent female spawning bass. Ajay is aware of the fact that this time of the year produces giant bass, but he wasn’t prepared for the catch-of-a-lifetime so far. As a very keen novice bass fisherman, he has started to love the sport ‘with a passion’ and takes every opportunity to hunt for beautiful fish. Lucky for him, his lovely wife Nita has also been bitten by the fishing bug and likes nothing more than to accompany him on his expeditions. He has taught her the little bit of knowledge he has gained through spending time on the waters with some of the more experienced anglers.

Ajay is currently a member of the Vryheid Luremasters Bass Fishing Club in Vryheid. As such, he has had some opportunities to fish at local dams and compete against other anglers through monthly leagues held within the club. This has allowed him to gain more experience and confidence.

He also very recently purchased a bass boat, which he has named ‘Bass Whisperer’. Ajay says it was such an honour to land an absolute giant on his new boat and to have his wife with him to witness the beautiful bass. It weighed 4.93kg, which is a personal best to date. The fish was caught using Molix Spinner bait in the early parts of the morning.

Husband and wife were both so excited, and now hope to land even bigger fish in the future.

Ajay says his motto in the bass fishing fraternity is: The only fisherman you should try to be better than is the fisherman you were yesterday. Stay humble and always give of your best on every fishing outing.
