Mayor visits Môrester after child is found dead

Police are investigating the matter

Mayor Zama Sibisi, together with Ward Councillor Abbas Warasally, visited Môrester Children’s Home on Wednesday (December 29) in the wake of a tragedy at the Home.

Seven-year-old found dead

The reason for the visit by the mayor was that a seven-year-old boy died at Môrester on Sunday (December 26).

According to Home director Lizette van Niekerk, one of the caretakers was preparing breakfast at the time of the tragedy. She turned around and saw a child lying motionless in a pool of blood. It is alleged that two boys were playing with each other and one of them accidentally hit his head.

Van Niekerk commented that the child who passed away was a caring, kind and happy youngster who was overwhelmed when he received a gift voucher and toys for Christmas. She added that he was extremely happy on Christmas Day as he played with his friends.

The deceased is described as a ‘tiny little boy who always had a smile on his face’.
