Heavy rainfall causes localised flooding in Winterton area

Roads are closed and several low-lying bridges are impossible to cross

Heavy rainfall over the past few days, including yesterday (January 19), caused localised flooding in the Winterton area.

Emergency services were on standby after a farm dam appeared to be in danger of bursting its banks. According to emergency services, it did not. By this morning (January 20), the danger appears to have passed.

The water level in the Lindeques River is still very high and almost crossing the R74 and R600 in places.

Emergency services are still at the dam, monitoring the situation.

The localised flooding saw several roads being closed and made several low-lying bridges impossible to cross. Several houses in the rural areas have been damaged.
