Life imprisonment for ‘uncle-rapist’
A case of rape was opened at eMondlo SAPS
A 35-year-old ‘uncle’ has been sentenced to life imprisonment by the Nquthu Regional Court. The sentence was handed down on Monday last week after the court heard how he brutally raped his 11-year-old niece.
The crime happened on September 9, 2018, in eMondlo. The 11-year-old girl was at her uncle’s home, where he forced her to watch a pornographic video. He then raped her. She was given R8 and threatened with death should she tell anyone. The victim was brave enough to report the horrendous ordeal to her elders.
A case of rape was opened at eMondlo SAPS and was then transferred to the Vryheid Family Violence, Child Protection & Sexual Offences Unit.
Following a sterling investigation, the accused was arrested and tried in court. After making several court appearances, the sexual predator was finally sentenced last week. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm and his name will be put in the sexual offenders register.
