Success for Drakensberg Polar Bear Swim

140 swimmers took the icy plunge

Diving in at 12-noon on Saturday (June 25), the Drakensberg Polar Bear Swim Challenge was once again a huge success.

140 swimmers – both old and young, local and from all over South Africa – braved the 10.5 ºC water in Dragon Peaks Dam.

The Waka-Waka market and Top Gear children’s playground were also well supported.

Swimmers’ safety was a priority, with Paramedics 4 Life and FREDDIES on duty, both in and out of the water.

Spectators were generous and donated dog and cat food, as well as blankets. This will be given to local animal charities.
