Potholes remain a nightmare for motorists in Mbhele Street

The potholes were filled with construction stones, and have since reappeared and filled with water instead.

Motorists in Sithembile are at their wits’ end with all the potholes in Mbhele Street, months after Endumeni Municipality’s Technical Services Department promised to fix the road.
The potholes were filled with construction stones, and have since reappeared and filled with water instead. “Our vehicles are getting damaged daily and we have to swerve to avoid the craters,” said local resident Nomzamo Mncube. She further explained that during the Integrated Development Plan process, municipal officials promised to fix all the potholes in the area. “I knew this was a farfetched dream, as nothing has been done since that meeting – besides covering the holes with construction stones, which is not a permanent solution,” said an angry Nomzamo.
She concluded by saying that this street is near a school, so it gets busy in the mornings and afternoons when parents are dropping off and fetching their children.
The Ward 3 councillor was contacted for comment, but none had been received at the time of going to print.
