llegal dumping infuriates resident
Sibongakonke cautioned parents to teach their children not to play inside storm-water drains after it has rained, as they contain litter, sand, bacteria and unknown chemicals.

Residents of Ntabeni Street in Sithembile woke up on Sunday morning to find litter all over the street.
According to Sibongakonke Phakathi, who lives in Ntabeni Street, it seems as if the litter was dumped in the storm-water drain as well as in the road on Saturday night.
“It is shocking that people still dump their refuse in storm-water drains and on the streets when we have skip bins nearby. All this rubbish is hazardous to our children and animals,” said Sibongakonke.
He continued by saying that as summer is slowly approaching, residents need to keep storm-water drains clean and clutter-free to stop them from overflowing in the rainy season. “People need to understand the purpose of storm drains, as they are built to help prevent flooding by diverting rain off the street and into the drains,” added Sibongakonke.
He also cautioned parents to teach their children not to play inside storm-water drains after it has rained, as they contain litter, sand, bacteria and unknown chemicals.
He concluded that more awareness is needed, especially in Sithembile, as there are so many illegal dumping sites.
