Senior citizens celebrate at year-end function

Vryheid non-profit organisation (NPO) ‘Sibongumusa’ organised a year-end ceremony and invited all senior citizens from different congregations.

Vryheid non-profit organisation (NPO) ‘Sibongumusa’ organised a year-end ceremony and invited all senior citizens from different congregations to join the festivities at the Cecil Emmet Hall.

Mrs Mazibuko was the programme director for the day and kept the function vibrant with her melodic voice. Pastor Ngema opened the ceremony with a prayer, while the welcoming note was given by NPO founder Zine Mazibuko. She reminded women that when God created them, He said ‘it is good’ so let no one undermine nor defy your God-given status. “As senior citizens, we are on the last lap of our lives and God is interested in how we finish the race.”

The purpose of the day was to give thanks to God, Whom it was said has been with them through thick and thin up until this point in their lives. Four prayer items were rendered by the group during the ceremony. They prayed for: 1) gender-based violence; 2) the high unemployment rate among the youth; 3) the government; and 4) the building of stable homes.
Queen Nomthandazo Buthelezi, who is the wife of the Ulundi mayor, blessed the ‘house’ with praise and worship.

The Word of God was shared by Pastor Sharon Gazu, who delivered a powerful and enriching sermon. She read from Psalm 103: 1-5, “Praise the Lord, Oh! My soul…” David had nothing to bring to the Lord but his soul. It was said that the benefits of giving thanks to God are that it opens God’s storehouse and has the power to change things. She also quoted the story of Lazarus, who was raised from the dead after four days.
The senior citizens were grateful for the support shown. They invite all retired women to join them, as there are lots of activities to keep them empowered mentally, spiritually, physically and otherwise.
