Hammers FC undone by Newcastle Legends’ pace

As the season draws to a nail-biting conclusion, the RBCA Chartered Accountant Super League continues to deliver exciting football action.

The heat was turned up even further on Sunday when Spartans and Zim Stars went head-to-head in a feisty game which saw officials struggle to keep things together.

However, the referee, Siyabonga, was cool, calm, and collected. Both teams played brilliant attacking football.

Zim Stars should have taken the lead if not for the heroics of Spartans goalkeeper, Theron. The first half ended goalless; however, the second half saw plenty of fireworks.

Spartans were unlucky not to take the lead when Malik’s strike rattled the crossbar, leaving the Zim Stars goalkeeper looking like a spectator.

Minutes later it was Miguel who should have scored for Spartans but brilliant defending from Davy saw him clear the ball off the line with his goalkeeper well-beaten.

The game seemed destined for a goalless draw, but as the saying goes, it ain’t over till the fat lady sings… and it was Spartans that netted the winner with the last kick of the game.

Munawarah and Fairleigh United were up next with both teams in need of a win to keep the pressure on Zim Stars.

Munawarah went 2-0 up through Mustafa but Fairleigh United continued to play attacking football only to squander too many chances.

In the second half, a refreshed Fairleigh United took to the field. It came as no surprise when Boka pulled one back for Fairleigh.

Now it was Munawarah who began to feel the heat, and coach, Aboo, decided to replace two wingers with two defenders.

This frustrated Fairleigh United, who found it impossible to penetrate the Munawarah wall with the latter prevailing 2-1.

Fairleigh United manager, Cheslin Daniels, was furious with the officiating of the game, while Munawarah manager, Aboo, was relieved to walk away with three points.

Hammers and Newcastle Legends went head to head in a great display of football that saw the first end 0-0.  This prompted Legends stand-in manager, Premie Singh, to replace a defender with a striker.

This paid off as Legends’ Dr. Gregory was fouled in the box, earning Legends a penalty, which Ismail converted.

Hammers struggled with the pace and strength of Dr. Gregory and Legends were soon 2-0 up which was how the game ended. Legends won 2 nil.  Mr. Singh was delighted with the win and praised his players.

There will again be some great action at Fernwood soccer grounds this weekend.

The RBCA Chartered Accountant Super League team will be travelling to play in Margate on November 16 together with the Newcastle Legends over-50 team.
