Methodist Church prays for all learners before exams
After his speech, the students were requested to come forward for prayer
Mondlo Methodist Church recently conducted a ‘prayer boost’ for all learners in different grades before writing their exams. The main purpose was to ask God to relieve tension and anxiety, and also to pray for a smooth examination process without any disturbances.
Grade 12 Mathematics educator Msizi Nkumane was invited as a motivational speaker. He used the analogy of a tree bearing fruits to illustrate the life circumstances learners come across throughout their lives. He said that only the surviving flowers will be able to bear fruits. His message was that all the students are unique and perform in different ways; therefore it is important for a student to know his or her learning style. To make his point clear, he used animals like an ant, donkey, honey bird and eagle as a metaphor to illustrate different categories of students. He motivated them to have a goal in life and make sure that goal is attained. He urged them to use previous years’ question papers when preparing for an exam. He continued to say that they must never lose focus, no matter what comes along in their lives, and requested parents not to compare their children in terms of academic performance. After his speech, the students were requested to come forward for prayer. The learners were all happy and had a smile on their face when leaving the church.
