Ward 4 pothole project: Residents help pave the way

Community steps up to improve roads as municipal repairs begin, following successful public-led Ward 4 pothole project.

The community of Ward 4 has paved the way to a better tomorrow after contributing 160 bags of tar towards the Ward 4 pothole project, spearheaded by Councillor Bertie Meiring.

Cllr Meiring estimates the donated tar weighs 4000kg and is valued at around R15 200.

“A sincere thank you goes to Wouter and Robbie from Build It Newcastle for storing the tar and handling the delivery. Their support significantly eased the burden on both residents and other sponsors,” said Cllr Meiring.

He also thanked residents, Shawn Vermaak and Jacques Breedt, for consistently promoting and encouraging residents to get involved with the project.

“Their motivation definitely played a key role in the community’s participation and the success of the project. To every resident who donated a bag – thank you. Each contribution counted, and together we reached our goal of 160 bags,” he said.

Cllr Meiring added that the municipal team has been booked for this week to begin filling potholes in Ward 4, starting on Impala Road.

Residents are encouraged to continue supporting the project, as the goal is to ensure safer roads for all motorists.

Cllr Meiring is also encouraging wider participation from local schools, churches, organisations and businesses to also get on board.

Build It has received a new supply of tar – now priced at R98 per bag.

The process of donating will remain the same:

  • Donors pay for the bags at Build It.
  • Send a photo of the receipt via WhatsApp to Cllr Meiring on 084 406 4953.
  • Built It will store and deliver the tar as needed.

“Together, we can continue making a real difference to the condition of our roads,” concluded Cllr Meiring.
