Inkamana Marathon renamed after Prof Otty Nxumalo to honour his lasting legacy.

Inkamana Athletics Club honoured legendary Professor Otty Nxumalo on Friday at Nkamana Hall. The club announced that the annual Inkamana Marathon will now be called the Prof Otty Nxumalo Marathon. Nxumalo is a renowned author and language practitioner who hails from Louwsburg under AbaQulusi Local Municipality.
This gesture was to ensure that Nxumalo’s legacy lives on and that the next generation also gets to know this legendary man. The Prof Otty Nxumalo Marathon will be a qualifier for the Two Oceans and Comrades marathons, enticing athletes from all walks of life to take part. The theme for the marathon, as pronounced by the professor himself, is ‘Bambelela, Uphumelele’.
The marathon is scheduled to take place on October 4 in AbaQulusi.
This announcement by the club has attracted other stakeholders such as AbaQulusi Plaza and KwaZulu-Natal Athletics, who have committed themselves to working with both the local and district municipalities. The announcement was also graced by the presence of AbaQulusi Mayor Sifiso Mkwanazi, Zululand District Mayor Michael Khumalo, KwaZulu-Natal Athletics chairperson Steve Mkansi and many other stakeholders.
