Schools unite to fight drug abuse and gangsterism with sports day

Organiser Cllr Londathina Hlomuka says the initiative aims to restore discipline and revive the culture of sport among learners.

The inter-primary schools games, aimed at spreading awareness against drug abuse and gangsterism, were held on Wednesday (September 10) in Ezakheni C-Section.

Primary schools under the Ezakheni Circuit participated, competing in both soccer and netball as part of the awareness campaign.

According to organiser Cllr Londathina Hlomuka from Ward 4, the initiative was born out of growing concern over drug abuse and gangsterism within local schools.

“We believe that this will help restore discipline and also shift focus away from negative influences. We want to bring back a strong sporting culture and unity among learners. This was just the start—we hope to host more games like this in the future, and we urge parents to support their children,” said Hlomuka.

He also thanked the community and sponsors for their support, noting that learners received refreshments on the day. Winners will be awarded sporting kits, medals, and trophies, courtesy of donors.

Teachers and learners alike welcomed the initiative, praising Cllr Hlomuka’s efforts to uplift the youth through sport.
