Vryheid learners shine in 2025 matric results
Joy and relief as Zululand matric learners celebrate strong 2025 examination results.
There were mixed emotions and visible sighs of relief as the matric class of 2025 received their results on Tuesday last week.
KwaZulu-Natal tops national pass rate
The Class of 2025 achieved a National Senior Certificate pass rate of 88%, with KwaZulu-Natal recording the highest provincial pass rate at 90.6%.
AbaQulusi Municipality honours top achiever
The AbaQulusi Local Municipality congratulated the Class of 2025 and visited KwaBhanya Secondary School on Monday to honour Lwandile Mtshali from Ward 14, who achieved seven distinctions. She was awarded a laptop, a school bag and other gifts in recognition of her achievement.
Learners reflect on challenging matric year
The Vryheid Herald visited several schools to hear learners’ experiences. Amahle Ntanzi, who completed Grade 12 at Vryheid High School, said matric was a demanding but rewarding year.
“Grade 12 was really hectic, but I enjoyed it. The subjects were challenging, but with hard work you can achieve the results you want,” she said. Ntanzi added that Life Sciences was particularly difficult, but she was grateful for her final results.

High achievers share advice for current Grade 12s
Nhlanhlayakhe Ngcobo, a matriculant from Vryheid Comprehensive Secondary School, achieved five distinctions and expressed excitement over his results.
“I am thrilled and excited, even though I was aiming for seven distinctions. I am happy with what I achieved,” he said. Ngcobo advised current Grade 12 learners to remain consistent, put in extra study hours and form study groups with peers who share similar goals. He has received an offer from the University of KwaZulu-Natal and hopes to pursue a career in mechanical engineering.
Zululand District and AbaQulusi schools perform strongly
The Zululand District recorded an 88.9% pass rate, with schools in the AbaQulusi Local Municipality performing exceptionally well. Inkamana, Hlanguza, Landbou and Shoba High Schools achieved a 100% pass rate, while Filidi Secondary School recorded 97.8%, KwaBhanya Secondary School 97.1%, Vryheid High School 96.8%, Vryheid Comprehensive Secondary School 92.9%, and Mpofini High School 91.5%.
