School shoe donation lifts learners’ confidence at Wonderboom

Donation of 46 school shoes supports learners’ dignity, attendance and readiness to learn.

Wonderboom Primary School learners received a boost when Zakhele Selby Xulu, director and founder of the award-winning Zakhele Foundation and principal of Nkwambazi Primary School, visited the school to officially hand over 46 pairs of new school shoes.

Partnership supports learner dignity

The shoes were donated by MY WALK Made with Soul NPC, under the leadership of general manager Delaine Bezuidenhout.

The handover ceremony took place on Friday and was attended and supported by members of the School Governing Body, educators and staff of Wonderboom Primary School.

Principal welcomes initiative

Principal Mr Dlamini expressed his gratitude to Bezuidenhout and Xulu for their generosity, noting that the donation would ease the burden on parents and ensure that all learners are properly equipped with school uniforms.

Encouraging learning and attendance

This initiative aims to encourage a love for learning, boost learners’ self-esteem and reduce absenteeism.

Programme inspired by previous success

Xulu explained that he was motivated to extend the programme to Wonderboom Primary after his own school, Nkwambazi Primary, previously benefited from similar donations from MY WALK Made with Soul NPC and the Kwetso Foundation, led by Anthony Spies.

Shoes linked to learner well-being

“School shoes play a vital role in improving learner safety, health and physical development, highlighting the strong link between education, equality and child well-being,” Xulu said.

Appreciation for stakeholders

He thanked all stakeholders involved, including the principal, Mr Dlamini, and the school community, for the warm reception and support shown during the handover.
