Prayer service held for scholar transport safety in Vryheid

Faith leaders and Santaco unite to pray for learner transport safety after tragic Vaal accident.

A special prayer service for scholar transport drivers and learners was held at the NG Kerk on Thursday, following a tragic road accident in Vaal in which 14 learners lost their lives while being transported to school.

Santaco, pastors and law enforcement unite in prayer

The prayer gathering was organised by the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco), in partnership with local pastors and law enforcement officials. The aim was to seek God’s intervention for the protection of learners, drivers, taxi owners and the broader community.

Bishop urges responsibility among transport operators

Addressing those in attendance, Bishop Derby stressed the responsibility of all those involved in scholar transport.

“Owners of vehicles transporting learners must ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy and that drivers are fit to be on the road. Drivers must obey traffic laws, be patient and never overtake on a barrier line,” he said.

Prayers focus on safety, wisdom and obedience

Apostle Hlela led prayers focusing on the safety of learners and drivers as they travel to and from school during the week. Prayers were also offered for wisdom, obedience and patience among all road users.

Community encouraged to seek protection through faith

Pastor Ntshangase prayed for the AbaQulusi community, citing Proverbs 18:10 and encouraging residents to seek protection through faith.

“There is power in the name of Jesus and when we come to Him, we find safety and security,” he said.

Service concludes with the Word of God

The service concluded with the Word of God delivered by Bishop Zakwe.
