A scam artist is posing as a municipal HR official, looking to con you out of your hard-earned cash.
Residents are urged to beware of a scammer posing as a Newcastle Municipality human resources (HR) official, promising jobs in exchange for cash.
Cash for jobs
In a statement issued this morning (March 3), municipal spokesperson Mthandeni Myende said the matter was brought to the municipality’s attention after reports that a con artist was contacting residents from the following cellphone number: 078 766 6433.
Myende appeals to anyone who may have fallen victim to this scam to report the matter urgently to the South African Police Service.
Municipal jobs not for sale
He stressed that municipal jobs are not for sale, and that the municipality follows a fair and transparent recruitment process.
“All Newcastle Municipality job opportunities are advertised on the official website, www.newcastle.gov.za,” he said.
The public has been warned not to make any payments in exchange for employment, as this constitutes corruption. Those found guilty of this offence will face legal action.
