Newcastle Lions ladies golf for a good cause
Golf for Good was a 'roaring' success.
The Newcastle Lions hosted their annual Charity Golf Day on Saturday, with 80 enthusiastic players taking part in a wonderful day of golf, fellowship and community spirit.
The weather co-operated beautifully, creating warm and pleasant conditions for everyone to enjoy the day.
“Once again, our sponsors showed tremendous generosity and support. Their contributions included prizes for the prize-giving ceremony, as well as sponsorship of the water tables, helping to keep players refreshed and hydrated throughout the day,” said club president Annette Conradie.
She continued that, “We extend our heartfelt thanks to every sponsor who contributed to the success of the event. Without their generosity and continued support, projects such as these would simply not be possible.”
Players compete for top honours
The winners were as follows:
- 1st – Jun Su and Struan Wade (47 points);
- 2nd – Kamil and Roshan Singh (43 points onco);
- 3rd – Brian Boardman and Craig Elliott (43 points onco);
- 4th – Ricard Clayton and George Meyer (43 points onco);
- 5th – Boland and Ebert Koorts (43 points onco).
During registration, players also had the opportunity to purchase raffle tickets for a cooler box filled with goodies.
The raffle added some extra excitement to the morning and provided another opportunity for participants to support the charitable work of the Newcastle Lions.
Event highlights recycling and community support
The Charity Golf Day is about much more than golf. It is an opportunity to bring people together while raising awareness and supporting projects that make a real difference in our community.
This year’s theme was ‘Recycle, Re-use’, highlighting the importance of protecting the environment and making better use of the resources around us.
September is Environment Month, providing an ideal opportunity to remind the community that recycling is a big deal and that every individual and business can make a difference.
“We encourage businesses, large and small, as well as members of the community to collect and recycle cans and bottle tops.”
The collection of bottle tops, according to Annette, has a particularly important purpose.
These are collected to help Newcastle Lions obtain wheelchairs for people in need, turning something as simple as a discarded bottle top into an opportunity to improve someone’s quality of life.
“We also encourage the collection of unused spectacles. Instead of allowing unwanted glasses to gather dust or end up in the rubbish, they can be donated for recycling and potentially help someone who is struggling with their vision.
“From keeping players hydrated to supporting our recycling initiatives, from collecting bottle tops for wheelchairs to recycling unused spectacles, every contribution counts.
“The Newcastle Lions sincerely thank all players, sponsors, volunteers and supporters who helped make the 2026 Charity Golf Day a success. Together, we can recycle, re-use and make a difference,” Conradie concluded.
