Thought-provoking issues tackled at Dundee Secondary School’s Community Dialogue programme

Issues facing teens were boldly debated.

Thought-provoking and often thorny topics were tackled when Dundee Secondary School hosted a Community Dialogue programme, with various government departments giving talks and sharing advice.
Topics covered included teenage pregnancy, where it was said that around 25% of female students at some point drop out of school after falling pregnant.
This is especially prevalent in rural areas, where young people start relationships early, according to Department of Social Welfare representatives.
Advice was given on contraception, while stark warnings were issued against drug and alcohol abuse.
The topics sparked plenty of questions from the learners, who thanked the guest speakers for the advice given.
Principal Mr Dhlamini thanked all those who attended.
He also paid tribute to Miss Zondo of the LSA Learners Support Group, who organised the event; the staff members for making the event successful; and the learners for their good behaviour.
