Endumeni elects 27-year-old Mayor

Turmoil and intrigue continue to swirl around Endumeni following last week's bomb threat and the resignation of former mayor, Siyabonga Ndlovu.

Endumeni’s new Mayor, 27-year-old Mcebo Mkhize of the IFP,  has just been inaugurated – Tuesday, November 19.. He takes the chain of office from fellow IFP member, Siyabonga Ndlovu, who resigned after a plethora of allegations against him culiminated in a motion of no confidence tabled by the DA.

Ndlovu resigned before the motion was heard.

Last week’s meeting that would have seen Mkhize take office was cancelled after a bomb threat was received that saw the SAPS clear the municipal building.

Mkhize is a local IFP youth leader who hails from the Rorke’s Drift area that falls within the Msinga municipality.

The local ANC region has already spoken out against the IFP, with the DA’s support, choosing an inexperienced candidate while Endumeni struggles to deliver basic services and faces an Eskom debt of around R200-million.

IFP Mayors from both the Umzinyathi District, Newcastle and Greytown were in attendance at the meeting.
