More illegal firearms rooted out, four arrested in Umzinyathi area

SAPS in the Umzinyathi district have this year waged a relentless war on illegal firearms.

Two more illegal firearms were rooted out and three men were arrested when SAPS raided two targets in the Pomeroy area in the early hours of last Wednesday.
Following up on intelligence received, SAPS’s KZN Tactical Response Team swooped on the targets, seizing one R5 assault rifle and one 38 special handgun.

In a separate incident, the Umzinyathi District Task Team conducted an intelligence-driven operation in the Kwawolwane area of the Nhlanhleni (Pomeroy) policing precinct, which resulted in the arrest of a 30-year-old man suspected of possessing an unlicensed pistol.
All the arrested suspects will soon appear in the Msinga Magistrate Court.
