Salem Uelzen congregation opens new preschool to serve local community

Uelzen Church, part of Endumeni's local heritage, has shown great resilience in reaching out to the community it serves by constantly developing new programmes.

The Salem Uelzen congregation, a cornerstone of the local community since its establishment in 1897, has taken a significant step towards further community service with the official opening of its new preschool. Located on Sunset Rest Road, adjacent to Uelzen Primary School, the preschool marks a pivotal moment for the congregation’s ongoing mission to serve and grow with the community.

The opening ceremony, held under the scorching sun, was a heartfelt occasion. Pastor Marlon Hiestermann led the ceremony by blessing the new facility with a prayer and officially opening the classroom, symbolizing the beginning of this new chapter in community service.

“We are grateful for the generosity of many individuals who made this possible. What was once a garage has been transformed into a vibrant classroom, and a benefactor has even built a jungle gym to support play-based learning,” said Hiestermann. The preschool’s foundation was inspired by requests from parents at Uelzen Primary School, underscoring the congregation’s commitment to responding to the needs of the community.

Serving children aged four and five, the preschool offers a Christian-centered environment where young learners can grow academically and spiritually. The preschool is led by experienced educators Claire Holliday and Zanri van Dyk, who recently returned from the USA.

“The preschool not only strengthens ties between our congregation and Uelzen Primary but extends our mission into the wider community. We want every child to feel valued and supported here,” Hiestermann remarked. He also emphasized the vision for the future, including the potential to expand staff and age groups to further serve local families.

“This preschool is more than just an educational facility – it is part of our mission to spread the love of Christ and build unity in our community,” Hiestermann concluded.
