Continuous heavy rain leads to flooding in Endumeni area

The heavy February rains have been welcomed by farmers but motorists have been warned to exercise caution,

The ongoing heavy rainfall has caused significant disruption in the region, with many roads now flooded, making travel dangerous.

Over 70 mm has been measured in the Dundee area said agricultural specialist, Kobus van der Bank.

Doug Gordon who keeps accurate rainfall figures for the area reported that over 143,5 mm has fallen so far in  February while the  Dundee research station measured 190 mm.

The R33, the Dundee/Vryheid road, is particularly affected, with sections near Cotswold completely submerged. Motorists are strongly urged to avoid this route if possible to prevent accidents and delays.

Traffic officials are on high alert and will be monitoring the situation closely to ensure safety.

While the wet February has welcomed by maize farmers, the flooded roads, numerous rivers and streams have overflowed, causing further concerns in the area.

Endumeni’s Disaster Management team is also on stand by with manager, Phumlani Ntombela, saying ‘we are on level 2 (weather warning) but this can change drastically..’

The wet weather is expected to persist throughout the day, with local weather reports confirming continued rainfall. Residents and travellers are advised to exercise caution and stay away from these routes.
