One of those arrested has been linked to a multiple murders in the Nquthu area.

Two men, aged 23 and 71, were arrested today on charges of being in possession of illegal firearms and ammunition during intelligence-driven operations in Kranskop and Msinga.

SAOS carried out two separate operations, leading to the arrests. The first operation, conducted by the Umzinyathi District Task Team in the Hholwane area under the Msinga policing precinct, resulted in the arrest of a suspect found with two unlicensed shotguns.
“The suspect is also linked to a mass murder case from October 2023, where four people were killed at KwaNqulu under the Nquthu policing precinct. He faces charges of murder and possession of unlicensed firearms,” said SAPS spokesperson, Constable Siyabonga Nkwanyana

In a separate operation, the KwaZulu-Natal Tactical Response Team (TRT) apprehended another suspect in the Mphise area under the Kranskop policing precinct. The suspect was found with one shotgun, a .22 hunting rifle, and ammunition. The firearms will undergo ballistic testing to check if they were used in prior criminal activities.
Both suspects are set to soon appear in the Msinga and Kranskop Magistrates’ Court.
