Huge sigh of relief by motorists as potholes are filled in Dundee CBD

New Mayor, Mcebo Mkhize, has promised to fix potholes, streetlights and clean storm water drains... some progress has been made but fed up residents want more...

Motorists have heaved a sigh of relief after seeing municipal work teams filling some of the worst potholes in Dundee’s CBD.
Holes were filled in Beaconsfield and Gladstone Street, and the notorious ‘moon crater’ that had plagued customers for over a year was finally covered outside Build-It Hardware.

Heron Drive was destroyed following heavy rains earlier this week… the municipality has since carried out temporary repairs.
However, there are still concerns over what residents say is the ‘shoddy standard of work’ done in Bulwer Street, where the previous mayor trumpeted a R2-million upgrade project in September last year.

Huge potholes also make for dangerous driving conditions in Tandy Street outside the golf club, which attracts many visitors.
There are many ruts in Melville, Browning, Oldacre and Colley streets, say many residents who called the Courier.
Glencoe residents have complained about potholes in Biggar and Pieter van der Berg streets, and in other areas.
Mayor Mkhize has vowed to make potholes one of his focus points, along with streetlight repairs and storm-water drain cleaning.
