Divers retrieve man’s body from Dundee farm dam

The tragedy was one of three drowning incidents in Northern KZN over the past week.

Tragedy struck on Monday when a man drowned in a dam near Kunene Farm outside Dundee.
Phumlani Ntombela of Endumeni’s Disaster Management team said police divers were called in from Ladysmith. Just before 19:00 on Monday, the body of Khumbulani Mkhize (34) was recovered from the dam.

Witnesses said Mkhize had seen a group of youngsters swimming in the dam and decided to join them. However, he misjudged the depth of the dam, got into trouble and drowned.
Ntombela expressed his deepest condolences to the Mkhize family.

The tragedy was one of three drownings in the area over the last week following a drowning in the Ncandu River, Newcastle, claiming the life of a teenage boy while in Ladysmith a man drowned when his car went out of control and spun into a swollen river.
