Glencoe celebrates Holi with colour and plenty of exuberance
Holi is a major Hindu festival celebrated as the Festival of Colours, Love, Equality and Spring. It celebrates the eternal and divine love of the deities Radha and Krishna.
The vibrant Hindu festival of Holi was celebrated in Glencoe on Saturday, symbolising the triumph of good over evil.
More than just a celebration of colours, Holi also signifies unity and community, bringing together people from diverse cultures to embrace the spirit of togetherness. The festival serves as a powerful expression of joy, renewal and the casting away of negativity. It is a time for forgiveness and fresh beginnings.

Nishara Sivnarain of the Glencoe Hindu Youth & Cultural Organisation reflected on the deeper meaning of Holi, stating that, “Just as the colours blend together to create beautiful patterns, we too can blend in harmony. Holi imparts valuable lessons about acceptance and inclusivity, and serves as a reminder that love knows no boundaries. Regardless of caste, colour, creed or status, we are all united in our humanity.”
The Glencoe Hindu Youth & Cultural Organisation strives to bring young people together, fostering cultural awareness and empowering them to follow the right path in their lives.
The organisation also promotes cultural tolerance and acceptance.
“We offer dance and drama classes to youth of all ages, along with opportunities to participate in showcases. Additionally, we provide fitness and yoga classes for females of all ages,” Sivnarain added. For details, call her on 084 208 8041.
The organisation extends its gratitude to all patrons and sponsors who contributed to the success of this year’s Holi. All proceeds raised from the celebration were donated to Glencoe Primary School in Violet Street, which is in urgent need of funds.
