KZN Premier heads ‘inter-faith’ conference in Glencoe Town Hall

The conference has brought a delegation of VIPS to the town but some residents are critical that it took this visit for potholes to be 'suddenly repaired'.

KZN Premier Thamsanqa Ntuli is today in Glencoe, accompanied by a delegation of VIPS who are attending an ‘inter-faith’ conference.

The Premier is currently delivering his address, where he also paid tribute to Pope Francis, who passed away yesterday.

Endumeni Mayor, Andrew Mkhize, is also present, as are members of the public. Security is tight, and some photographers were already prevented from taking photos by security personnel.

Willie Steenberg of the Endumeni Residents Association, ERA, was critical of a surge in activity around the town hall on Biggar Street, where municipal workers this morning rushed to fill in potholes. The usual water outage in Glencoe was also eased, with residents reporting that the supply had returned, albeit with low pressure.

“We get no service for months, with the usual excuse being that there is no budget or that the machinery is broken. Now, we get a bunch of VIPS, and suddenly, potholes are fixed. It is a slap in the face for those who pay rates towards the municipality,” Steenberg fumed.

This is a developing story, and details will be provided as these are received.
