Endumeni to get another ward as new boundaries are announced
With little more than a year to go to the next local government elections, Endumeni will get two more councillors.
Eight wards (and 15 councillors – seven public representatives) will be contested when voters in Endumeni go to the polls in the 2026 local government elections.
This was revealed at the Municipal Demarcation Board, a public consultation at the Moth Hall last week to discuss the redrawing of ward boundaries for Dundee, Glencoe, and Wasbank ahead of the next municipal elections.
Chaired by Municipal Demarcation Board representatives Sbongiseni Maseko and provincial coordinator Mthombisi Manzini, the session aimed to inform community members and councillors about the demarcation process and the way forward. The board will work closely with representatives from all sectors to review submissions and conduct consultations for all eight wards in the district.
In the last municipal elections in November 2021, the IEC recorded a total of 33,272 registered voters across the then seven wards in Endumeni.
An additional ward 8, has been added to ensure that there is a balance in the number of voters in each of the wards. Ward 7, which previously covered the greater Glencoe area, Kunene farm and Thelaphi, has now been lumped together with the Mpati area of Dundee.
Strathmore Park has been hived off to another ward. Other areas are largely unaffected.
Some councillors who spoke to the Courier expressed disquiet over the new boundaries, with some saying that their traditional supporters have been split up to ‘water down support’.
All boundary proposals and feedback from community representatives and municipal departments must be finalised by June 30, with the final proclamation to be done in October.
The local government elections are expected to be held in the second half of 2026.
