Dundee’s Logan wins gold and sets sights on national wrestling glory
Logan Vorster wins wrestling gold in Newcastle and dreams of national success like her sister Sandré.
Six-year-old Logan Vorster is already making her mark on the wrestling mat, proving that determination knows no age limit.
The young athlete from Rhino Wrestling Club recently walked away with a gold medal at the Baby Sharks Tournament held in Newcastle, where she competed against wrestlers from five clubs across KwaZulu-Natal.
Logan’s passion for the sport is fuelled by inspiration from her family, friends and her coach, Steven Brown – a former Springbok wrestler.
We caught up with the pint-sized champion to learn more about what drives her.
What made you want to start wrestling?
“We had friends who were already wrestling and they invited us to join,” she says. “Uncle Steven, our coach, also told us to come and watch practice – and my daddy used to wrestle too.”
Were you scared in the beginning?
“Yes, I was very scared,” Logan admits. “I had to practise with boys and girls – but I was excited too.”
How did it feel to win the gold medal?
“It was very exciting!” she says, her face lighting up with pride.
What do you enjoy most about wrestling?
“I like the tournaments because we get to meet new friends.”
What went through your mind during the tournament?
“I kept thinking of winning a medal, having fun and trying my best.”
What’s next for you after this big win?
“My goal is to become a national champion like my sister, Sandré. I know I have to practise very hard.”
Logan’s positive spirit, discipline and love for the sport have already earned her admiration – and it’s clear that this rising star is just getting started on what promises to be an exciting wrestling journey.
