KZN SAPS Commissioner welcomes progress made in solving politically motivated murders

Detectives charge two suspects in the Mpophomeni political murder of Xolani Ndlovu-Ntombela, linked to illegal land sales.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, has commended the resilience of the Political Killings Task Team and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), whose determined efforts in solving political killings are yielding results.

This comes after detectives charged two suspects in connection with the murder of Xolani Ndlovu-Ntombela, who was shot dead at his Mpophomeni home in November 2022. His killing was linked to the illegal sale of land in the Emasosheni area, which he had been exposing.

The suspects, aged 55 and 23, were already in custody. One is applying for bail, while the other is awaiting trial for a separate murder case. Both now face additional charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

This case is one of 121 dockets recently handed back to the Political Killings Task Team in KwaZulu-Natal.

The two suspects are due to appear in the Howick Magistrate’s Court today, Monday, September 8.
