The long-awaited Paradigm Umzinyathi Private Hospital in Glencoe is now 80% complete — a significant milestone in healthcare development for Northern KwaZulu-Natal.
Developer Steven Pillay of the Paradigm Group confirmed that the R300 million project is on track to open in April 2026, promising to transform access to quality medical care in the region.
The 120-bed facility, built on 18 hectares next to Sarel Cilliers High School, will include surgical, maternity, casualty, paediatric, and general wards, all equipped with modern technology. A specialised heart unit and dialysis centre will make the hospital one of the most advanced in the district.
“Every aspect of the hospital has been designed for patient comfort,” Pillay said. “From family relaxation areas and a coffee shop to landscaped surroundings and ward kitchens, we want to make hospital stays less stressful for everyone.”
The development will also feature two pathological laboratories, a rehabilitation centre, and six consultation rooms for specialists. Around 300 jobs are expected to be created once the facility becomes operational.
Major boost for local economy
During a recent site visit, Mayor Mcebo Mkhize and municipal officials welcomed the project as a much-needed investment for Glencoe and the wider Umzinyathi region.
“For too long our people have had to travel far for top medical care — now it will be right here,” Mayor Mkhize said.
To support the facility, the municipality plans to upgrade the access road, power supply, and install additional water infrastructure.
Pillay thanked the Endumeni Municipality for its support, saying cooperation from officials had made the development process smoother.
“We look forward to serving this community and ensuring that quality healthcare is available close to home,” he said.
