Four trolleys filled as Dundee residents donate to local charities

Dundee residents helped fill trolleys of food and pet supplies during Rotary’s annual collection drive at Dundee Boulevard.

Rotary Dundee has praised the kindness of local shoppers after a successful food-collection drive at Dundee Boulevard on Saturday, November 1. Thanks to the generosity of Dundonians, the Rotarians filled four trolley loads of food and one trolley load of animal and pet food.

Donations support local organisations

The donated items have been delivered to several local organisations, including SAVF and ABH, both of which care for senior citizens in Glencoe, as well as Eventide Old Age Home in Dundee, Siphuthando Care Centre in Sibongile and the SPCA.

“This annual project invites shoppers to accept an R2 coin from Rotarians and Interactors from Dundee High School, which they may then put towards an item to be donated. Volunteers say they are continually struck by both the generosity of residents and the financial pressure many families of all ages are facing,” said Rotary’s Bev Garner.

Pick ‘n Pay once again supported the initiative with trays of food to start the morning, with this year’s contribution described as ‘notably generous’.

With the season of giving approaching, Rotary Dundee is encouraging residents to continue supporting reputable local organisations. As the club notes, giving often brings a natural “helper’s high” — a welcome boost of feel-good hormones.
