FNB urge consumers to be alert when withdrawing money

If you think it can't happen to you, think again. FNB CEO urges the community to be vigilant and cautious when withdrawing funds from an ATM anywhere.

Lee-Anne van Zyl, CEO of First National Bank (FNB), has confirmed that the ATM in Pioneer Park is equipped with a surveillance camera.

This was confirmed after a woman was scammed out of thousands of Rands when a man managed to obtain her card and pin number at the FNB ATM in that area.

In line with our standard processes, ATM footage is always considered in our investigations,” van Zyl told the Advertiser.

She further encouraged ATM users to take the following precautions:

  • FNB customers can make safe and secure cardless cash withdrawals at FNB ATMs.
  • Never accept help from strangers at an ATM.
  • Never force your card into the ATM.
  • Never share or write down your ATM PIN, and never share it with anyone.
  • When entering your PIN, cover the ATM keypad with your hand as a precautionary measure.
  • Set a realistic daily limit on your cash withdrawals to protect yourself.
  • Be wary of strangers that may call you back to the ATM to complete a transaction.
