Arrested for firearm possession at roadblock

The serial number of the 9mm pistol had been filed off

A 21-year-old man was arrested during a police roadblock on Friday (December 1) for being in possession of an illegal firearm.

He appeared in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court today (December 4).

The suspect’s vehicle was pulled over during a ‘stop and search’ operation in the Pieters area on Friday afternoon by officers who were conducting high-density operations in the area.

Found in his possession was a 9mm pistol with three rounds of ammunition. The firearm’s serial number had been filed off.

The man was immediately arrested and the recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic testing.
