Ward councillor and murder co-accused get bail

They will be appearing in court again at the end of March.

Ward 9 Councillor Nkosinathi Sithole and his co-accused, Xolani Mlangeni, were granted bail in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today (February 26). Sithole is an ANC councillor under Alfred Duma Local Municipality.

He and Mlangeni were arrested on Monday, February 17, on murder charges.

The incident they are accused of took place on Thursday, January 2.

According to an affidavit by the investigating officer, the duo fetched a man from his home in Acaciavale and took him to the Umbulwane area, where a mob viciously assaulted the man after accusing him of stealing. The man died as a result of the injuries sustained.

Today, the two accused applied for bail, which was granted unopposed.

They were granted R3500 bail each and will be appearing in court again on March 28.
