Councillor accused of killing family members gets ‘sick’ in court
He pleaded not guilty to all the charges levelled against him.

Former DA councillor in the Okhahlamba region, Michael Buthelezi, said he had a headache and was feeling dizzy when he was expected to take the witness stand on Wednesday last week (February 19).
Buthelezi stands accused of killing four family members.
The proceedings started well in the morning, with the state calling the last witness on its side. After lunch, Buthelezi was expected to take the witness stand and give testimony.
However, when the court was back in session, Buthelezi stated that he could not continue because he was feeling sick.
The case was postponed until May 20, 21 and 22.

It is alleged that on October 29, 2023, Buthelezi killed four members of his family. The victims were: 43-year-old Khombisile Gertrude Nyoka and three of his children (two-year-old Simbongile Khawulani Buthelezi, eight-year-old Zibusiso Zigizendoda Buthelezi and 10-year-old Lubanzi Buthelezi).
It is also alleged that the accused set Nyoka’s house (crime scene) on fire the same day. Hence, he is also charged with arson. In addition, he is accused of defeating the ends of justice by opening a case about the same incident at Winterton police station, which he allegedly did on October 31, 2023.
Buthelezi is further accused of making a false statement at Estcourt police station.
