Drugs valued at over R13,000 were seized.

Brief court appearance for trio

Three men aged 26, 43 and 48 briefly appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court on Friday morning (October 17) after being charged with possession of illegal drugs.

Task team strikes

The arrests were made during a targeted anti-drug operation by the uThukela Intervention Task Team the previous evening, in various areas around Ladysmith.

Heroin and cocaine found in Queen Street

The youngest suspect, a 26-year-old man, was nabbed in Queen Street. Police reportedly found him in possession of 26 red and white capsules suspected to contain heroin, along with a piece of rock cocaine. The drugs have an estimated street value of R105.

Major mandrax haul in Aloe Park

In a separate operation, a 43-year-old man was arrested in the Aloe Park area. He was found with 250 mandrax tablets valued at around R12,500. Police also confiscated cash believed to be the proceeds of drug sales.

Third arrest in same area

A 48-year-old man was also taken into custody in Aloe Park shortly afterwards. Officers recovered nine mandrax tablets valued at R450, along with a small sum of cash suspected to be linked to drug activity.

Ongoing investigation

All three suspects remain in custody while investigations continue. Police have praised the swift action of the uThukela Intervention Task Team, saying the operation is part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on the drug trade in the region.
